THE POWER OF PRAYER
There once was a wise rabbi who wandered the countryside. One day, as he passed near a village, he was approached by a woman who told him about a sick child nearby. She begged him to help this child.
So the rabbi came to the village, and a crowd gathered around him, because such a man was a rare sight. One woman brought the sick child to him, and, holding the child, he said a prayer.
“Do you really think your prayer will help her, when medicine has failed?” yelled a man from the crowd.
“You know nothing about such things! You are a stupid fool!” said the rabbi to the man.
The man became very angry with these words and his face grew hot and red. He was about to shout something, or strike out at the rabbi, when the rabbi walked over to him and said: “If the words I just said to you have the power to make you so angry, why don’t the words I said in prayer have the power to heal?”
And thus, the rabbi healed two people that day.
Language does have the power to change reality. Treat your words as the mighty instruments they are - to heal, to nurture, to cherish, to bless, to forgive. |
